ELEMENTARY VISUAL ARTS PROGRAM

Beginning as early as Pre-K, students in Broken Arrow Public Schools are inundated with a variety of visual art forms and techniques through art class. Learning about visual arts helps students to better explore vocabulary words, problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, imagination, tactile touch, hearing assistance, self expression and more. Helpful Family Guides for Visual Art” (from the Oklahoma State Department of Education) show how parents and students can collaborate outside the classroom to make their art experience richer and more meaningful as it applies to the rest of their academic careers.

The love for visual arts can carry over with great results not only in your student’s post-elementary experience, but also beyond into a collegiate atmosphere and post-university life. According to the National Art Education Association, the arts and culture sector is a $699 billion dollar industry, while the nonprofit arts industry supports 4.1 million jobs in the U.S. The importance of visual arts can be found in this report from the NAEA, “The Critical Importance of Visual Arts Education.”

ELEMENTARY VOCAL MUSIC PROGRAM

Music is a cornerstone of an elementary student’s overall learning experience. By equating memorization skills, rhythm, glossary terms and spelling with music, students find familiar ways to retain knowledge based on song and sound. Music programs across the nation help students connect songs to certain eras of their lives, encourage movement through dancing, foster a love of musical instruments and more. “Helpful Family Guides for Music” (from the Oklahoma State Department of Education) show how to connect parents and students outside of the classroom with sing-a-longs, encouragement of concert-going experiences or even enrollment in lessons for musical instrumentation.

“Be Part of the Music,” powered by Music & Arts, suggests that music can enhance a student’s post-secondary career through music academic research, including that learning music facilitates the learning of other subjects and enhances skills that children inevitability use in other areas including language development, spatial-temporal skills, pattern recognition and more.
