VISUAL ARTS PROGRAM

COURSES

AP Art History (Grades 11 and 12)

Students will study the art of the world. Students will learn about art and its function in cultures throughout the ages. No art courses are required as this is history course. Students will be able to recognize and analyze the art and architecture of cultures throughout the world. Students should be strong readers and writers. In May, students should plan to take the Advanced Placement exam for possible college credit (Colleges determine credits earned). A fee is charged to take the AP exam.

Art I, Intro to 2D (Grades 10, 11 and 12)

Students will cover two-dimensional work such as drawing and design, color mechanics, and painting.

Art II, Intro to 3D (Grades 10, 11 and 12)

Students will cover three-dimensional work in pottery, sculpture, and mixed media.

Drawing I (Grades 10-12)

Students will build on drawing skills gained during previous high school art classes. The focus of the semester will be to explore mark making in a variety of media, working both with observation and abstractly. Students will be required to purchase some supplies.

Drawing II (Grades 10-12)

Students will build on drawing skills gained in Drawing I. Students will continue to explore mark making in a variety of media, working both with observation and abstractly. Students will be doing advanced projects and some independent study. Students will be required to purchase some supplies.

Printmaking I (Grades 10-12)

Students will explore basic printmaking processes including relief printing with linoleum as well as etching, monotype, and silkscreen. Students will be required to purchase some supplies.

Printmaking II (Grades 10-12)

Students will continue to explore printmaking processes including relief printing with linoleum as well as etching, monotype, and silkscreen. Students will be doing advanced projects and some independent study. Students will be required to purchase some supplies.

Painting I (Grades 10-12)

Students will build on painting skills gained during previous high school art classes. The focus of the semester will be acrylic and water coloring painting. Students will be required to purchase some supplies.

Painting II (Grades 10-12)

Students will build on painting skills gained in Painting I. The focus of the semester will be the use of water-soluble oil paints. Students will be doing advanced projects and some independent study. Students will be required to purchase some supplies.

Mixed Media I (Grades 10-12)

Students will build on skills gained during the Foundations or PAP Foundations of Art. Students will explore a variety of techniques using multiple mediums. Students will be required to purchase some supplies.

Mixed Media II (Grades 10-12)

Students will build on skills gained during Mixed Media 1. Students will explore a variety of techniques using multiple mediums. Students will be doing advanced projects and some independent study. Students will be required to purchase some supplies.

Sculpture I (Grades 10-12)

Students will build on sculpture skills gained during previous high school art classes. They will learn a variety of techniques as they explore art created in three dimensions. Students will be required to purchase some supplies.

Sculpture II (Grades 10-12)

Students will build on sculpture skills gained during Sculpture I. They will learn a variety of techniques as they explore art created in three dimensions. Students will be doing advanced projects and some independent study. Students will be required to purchase some supplies.

Ceramics I (Grades 10-12)

Students will build on ceramic skills gained during previous high school art classes. The focus will be on hand-building skills and some wheel throwing. Students will be required to purchase some supplies.

Ceramics II (Grades 10-12)

Students will build on ceramic skills gained during Ceramics I. The focus will be on advanced hand-building skills and wheel throwing. Students will be doing advanced projects and some independent study. Students will be required to purchase some supplies.

Pre-AP Art II (Grades 10-11)

Students will build on skills learned in previous years to begin developing their techniques to prepare them for their AP Studio Art Portfolio with the focus being on Drawing, 3D Design and 2D Design. Students will be required to purchase some supplies.

Pre-AP 3D Art & Design (Grade 11)

Students will further work with advanced sculpture techniques, developing their techniques to prepare them for their AP Studio Art 3D Design Portfolio which they will complete during their senior year. Students will be required to purchase some supplies.

AP Drawing (Grades 11 and 12)

Students will be required to rigorously study a variety of media and subject matter to develop a body of work with attention to the drawing concerns and mark making. The AP Art program enables highly motivated students to do college level work while in high school. Students will submit a portfolio of 24 works of art for evaluation by the College Board at the end of the school year for possible college credit. A fee is charged to take the exam in May. Students will be required to purchase some supplies.

2D AP Art & Design (Grades 11 and 12)

Students will be required to rigorously study a variety of media and subject matter to develop a body of work with attention to the use of elements of art and principles of design. The AP Art program enables highly motivated students to do college level work while in high school. Students will submit a portfolio of 24 works of art for evaluation by the College Board at the end of the school year for possible college credit. A fee is charged to take the exam in May. Students will be required to purchase some supplies.

AP 3D Art & Design (Grades 11 and 12)

Students will be required to study a variety of media & subject matter to develop a body of work with attention to the use of three dimensional space. This AP class enables highly motivated students to do college level work. Students will submit a portfolio of 24 works of art for evaluation by the College Board at the end of the school year for possible college credit. A fee is charged to take the AP exam in May. Students will be required to purchase some supplies and create an assigned artwork over the summer.
